Casa de la Paz

In the heart of colonial Merida, two blocks from the Santiago Park/ Market and a comfortable walking distance to the Plaza Grande Zocalo the city’s historic Main Square, Casa de la Paz offers a refuge of comfort from which you can embark on your adventure in the Yucatan.

A one bedroom, one-bath completely renovated, this Art Deco-inspired home has a traditional Maya garden, is a favorite with value-conscious travelers.  Casa de la Paz (House of Peace) is a  simple, bright and  comfortable  stylish mid-20th century town home in the historic Mérida Centro. Large rooms with 19 foot-high ceilings it features a large kitchen, dining room, living room, a second bedroom used  as a storage room and an air-conditioned master bedroom. Located in the Santiago neighborhood, around the corner such wonderful attractions as Casa Catherwood (www.casa-catherwood.com), Galeria Tataya (www.tataya.com.mx), Casa Cultural Elena Poniatowska (which features an open-air arts movie house), as well as the Church of Santiago el Apostol (St. James the Apostle Church), and is an easy walk to the other neighborhoods, cathedrals, parks, museums and the Paseo de Montejo (the grand boulevard in Merida where wealthy hacienda owners built their city homes, now shops, museums, banks and restaurants.) This is a great location from which to explore the nooks and crannies of Mérida.

Casa de la Paz features a Master bedroom with hand crafted marvelously comfortable  king size bed,  ceiling fan, air conditioning and high speed Internet connection. As is the tradition in the Yucatan , there is a sizable armoire for clothes, night table, comfortable chair and a large desk area. There is also a six drawer dresser in the living room.  Guests can access the Maya Garden featuring flora endemic to the Yucatan and used by the Maya in traditional medicines, from the bedroom, kitchen and living room. For those wonderful balmy evenings, mosquito netting covers the entrance to the garden, allowing tropical breezes, but keeping insects out.  The living and dining rooms are tastefully furnished with a large dining room table that seats 8. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes, glassware, flatware, high quality pots and pans and knives. It features a range, oven, refrigerator, toaster, blender/food processor, espresso machine.
